Genuine new, used-genuine or aftermarket parts? How to choose well

For the same part there are often three prices: genuine new, used-genuine and aftermarket. None of them is "good" or "bad" by itself — each wins in a different situation. This guide explains when we recommend which, and how we label them unambiguously in the shop.

Genuine new (OEM): when perfect fit matters most

A genuine new part is exactly what left the factory line — in unopened Nissan packaging with the factory label. You get guaranteed fit, finish and lifespan; the trade-off is price. For visible trim (emblem, grille) it is the safest choice. In our shop these carry the NISSAN GENUINE PARTS sticker on the product photo, and we photograph the box label into the gallery too.

Used-genuine: factory quality at a smart price

A used-genuine part is second-hand but original — typically from a damaged or scrapped car. The LED headlight is the classic example: very expensive new, but used you get factory optics for a fraction. The risk is condition — which is why every used item of ours is labelled "Used, inspected" and its condition is stated in the description (e.g. all mounting tabs intact, lens undamaged). Used parts carry a 1-year statutory warranty.

Aftermarket: for functional parts, at a friendly price

A quality aftermarket part is new but not from the factory supplier. For functional, less visible parts (fog lamps, bezels) the value is usually excellent: a new product with warranty, cross-referenced to the OEM part number it replaces. Our descriptions always say when a product is aftermarket and list the OEM number it substitutes.

Quick decision table

Rules of thumb that rarely miss:

  1. Visible trim (emblem, grille, chrome): genuine new.
  2. Expensive, complex unit (LED headlight): inspected used-genuine.
  3. Functional part that gets damaged in bumps anyway (fog lamp, bezel): quality aftermarket.

Frequently asked questions

What does your "Used, inspected" label mean?
An original factory part, second-hand, that we have checked: the description states its condition (e.g. all mounting tabs present, lens undamaged). Used parts carry a 1-year statutory warranty.
Is aftermarket worse than genuine?
Not necessarily — from a quality maker the difference on functional parts (e.g. fog lamps) is minimal while the price advantage is large. For visible trim, stay genuine.

Is there a warranty on used parts?
