Nissan Leaf ZE1 grille frame: pre-facelift vs facelift — how to tell them apart

Replacing a broken grille frame on your Leaf but not sure which of the two versions you need? This is the question we get most often from Leaf owners — and ordering the wrong version is the most common mistake, because the two frames are not interchangeable. This guide lets you identify the right one in minutes.

Which grille frame fits my Nissan Leaf?

The Nissan Leaf ZE1 (2017 onwards) was built with two different front grille frames, and they are not interchangeable. The pre-facelift version fits cars produced between 2017 and 2021: these carry the old chrome Nissan badge, and their grille part numbers belong to the 62070-5S… family (for example 62070-5SK0B). With the 2022 facelift the Leaf received the new flat Nissan logo and a redesigned grille pattern — these cars need the 62070-6W… family (for example 62070-6WK5B). The most reliable way to identify yours is the part number on the existing grille or your VIN; if you are unsure, send us the VIN and we will confirm which one you need. When was the Leaf ZE1 facelifted, and what changed?

The second-generation Leaf (ZE1) launched in late 2017 and was refreshed in 2022. The facelift was mostly cosmetic: the nose received the new flat Nissan logo (replacing the domed chrome badge), the grille insert pattern and front bumper were redesigned, and new wheel designs arrived. The mechanicals stayed essentially unchanged — which is why, for parts identification, the facelift boundary matters almost only at the front end.

How do I identify which version I have?

  1. Look at the nose badge: domed chrome Nissan logo = pre-facelift; flat new logo = facelift (2022 on).
  2. Check the part number on your existing grille frame (moulded on the back): starts with 62070-5S… = pre-facelift; 62070-6W… = facelift.
  3. If the frame is damaged or missing: send us your VIN and we will confirm which version you need.

OEM part numbers and interchangeability

Within each version several factory part numbers exist (depending on market and trim), and those are interchangeable with each other — but there is no crossover between the two versions. The pre-facelift family: 62070-5SK0B, 62070-5SH0A/B, 62070-5SH1A/B, 62070-5SH3A. The facelift family: 62070-6WK5B, 62070-6WK6A/B.

62070 or 62072 — frame or insert?

Marketplace listings (eBay, Allegro) often mix up the parts of the Leaf’s front end, so it helps to know: 62070-… part numbers refer to the upper grille FRAME (what this guide is about), 62072-… numbers are the grille INSERT sitting behind it (the “hologram” centre grille), 62320-… is the charge port lid, and 21496-… is the radiator protection mesh. Before buying, check exactly which element is damaged — suspiciously cheap “grille” offers are usually not the frame but one of the other parts.
